Getting started

How do I get books?

It's simple!

  • Subscribe to one of our plans and receive your credits
  • Redeem your credits on any of our hundreds of titles
  • Download our app to access your book and start learning a new language!
Is there a minimum subscription commitment?
There is no minimum! Cancel any time, and restart your subscription whenever you'd like more credits.

Books you've redeemed with credits are yours to keep forever. Credits are valid for two years.
Are redeemed books mine to keep?
Yes! When you redeem a credit for a book, you'll always have access to it in our app—even if you pause or cancel your subscription.
Does this method really work?
Yes! Blended-language learning leverages your current habits and contextual clues to improve language retention naturally. But don't take our word for it—read about the research behind the diglot weave technique.

Our bookshelf

Are Prismatext™ books a good way for me to study?
Absolutely! Prismatext books are perfect for beginners (A1/A2) building vocabulary, and effective for intermediate learners (B1/B2) brushing up. They use a technique called the diglot weave—also known as blended language or sandwich stories—which has a number of academic studies verifying its efficacy.
How are Prismatext books different from other dual-language books?
Prismatext books use inline translations, rather than adjacent or interlinear ones. A single sentence may contain both the source language and its target language. These are sometimes called "sandwich stories," but until now they've mostly been associated with children's books.
Do you offer books in [language]?
Our current language offering is: Arabic, Chinese (simplified), Dutch, French, German, Greek, Italian, Japanese, Korean, Latin, Norwegian, Polish, Portuguese, Russian, Spanish, and Swedish.

We add new languages all the time, so check back often—and let us know if there's one you really want to try!

Our process

Are the translated words in each book chosen at random?
Nope! The Prismatext blending process follows strict rules and uses a proprietary method to identify the words and phrases that provide the most utility to learners. We teach you the most useful words, so you only spend time learning words you'll use often.
Do Prismatext books account for the grammar of the target language?
They sure do! Right now, gendered nouns, singular and plural states, and descriptors (adjectives, quantities, determiners, etc.) are our main areas of focus.

As we improve our process and add languages, you'll start seeing direct/indirect object relationships, verb conjugations, cases, particles, and more.

The best part? When you buy a book, you're also subscribing to updates and improvements to it for life—so your book only keeps getting better.
Is 400+ foreign words too many for one book? That seems overwhelming.
Each Prismatext book introduces new words gradually—new translations appear as old ones become familiar, so you're never swimming in dozens of unknown words at once.

And here's a little secret: each book contains far more than 250 translated words, but those are the ones we focus on extra hard. We show them off in a variety of phrases and iterations, so you could push 500 unique words with each book!
Are Prismatext books "blended" by hand?
Prismatext uses a number of technologies and workflows for each book. Machine learning and manual reviews play equally important roles, and we're improving all the time—so please send us any feedback!
Can you dial up or down the number of foreign words in each book?
Prismatext will soon offer difficulty variants for each book. Beginner books introduce fewer words more gradually, while intermediate books have a steeper learning curve and translations of longer phrases.

Methodology

The Diglot Weave Technique: a scientifically better way to learn

Prismatext uses a technique popularized by Robbins Burling called the diglot weave. It "weaves" (or "blends") foreign words into sentences written in the learner's native language, and is ideal for new or intermediate learners—aiding retention of individual words and short phrases.

Dr. Burling earned his undergraduate degree from Yale (1950) and his Ph.D. in Anthropology from Harvard (1958). In 1968 he wrote Some Outlandish Proposals For The Teaching Of Foreign Languages, outlining several new approaches—one of which was the diglot weave technique Prismatext uses today.

Since 1968, many academic studies have measured its efficacy. On every measure, the diglot weave technique consistently outperforms traditional "practice and drill" methods used in classrooms, textbooks, and flashcards.
